Rolex Watches That Have A 'Happy Ending'!

Don’t worry; No Rolex Model is coming to an end! But what we meant to say is that there are a few Rolex watches that have had a ‘love-hate’ relationship with the buyers and collectors. As a watch brand, Rolex has established itself as a superior in the world of watchmaking, where people are eagerly willing to invest double the original price in owning one. Today, no matter what model you own, you can sell Rolex watches at an impressive rate.

But such fame, such desirability did not come easy to some models.

If you go back to Rolex’s history, you can find out that there are a few Rolex models which people didn’t like initially, but on today’s date, they love-‘Happy Ending’!

So, today we decided to talk about those unsaid heroes who took some time to attain fame but came back stronger than ever to become the Now-Favorites!

5 Rolex models that are now ‘LOVED’ by everyone

1. Rolex Daytona

Surprised, are you? We love the Rolex Daytona, but not everyone was impressed when the model made its debut in 1963. The collectors hated the first dials that were black, white, champagne, or silver.

The watches came with sub-dials in contrasting colours and received negative reviews from all. So how did everything change? Thanks to Paul Newman, who gave the ultimate stamp of approval to it.

When the world-famous actor started sporting the Rolex Daytona, it instantly hit. In today’s date, the Rolex ‘Paul Newman’ & ‘Panda’ models are amongst the most coveted ones.

2. Rolex Oyster Perpetual

For a long time, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual was considered the mere ‘entry-level’ Rolex with no or less real value. And honestly, it was quite true at that point. The watches had a simple dial design displaying the time.

However, the OP is a classic Rolex model that comes at a great price, and also, it is a model that allows the young collectors to get an entry into the luxury brand. But somehow, the OP models were always neglected.

Surprisingly things changed in 2020 when OP launched a trail of colourful watch dials that quite literally changed the fate of the OP collection. The Oyster Perpetual became an overnight hit, and today, you can only purchase an OP if you’re lucky!

If you own one, be grateful to your stars as you can now sell the Rolex watches at a hyped price in the pre-owned market.

3. Rolex Day-Date ‘President’ Stella Dials

This might come as a blow to some of you, but yes, there was a time when the Rolex Day-Date President Stella Dial models were looked down upon. The 1970s were a bizarre time. It was then that Rolex decided to manufacture brightly coloured lacquered dials.

Contrary to Rolex's wish, the high gloss dials fitted with the classic Day-Date timepiece were a ‘no-no’ for the watch collecting community until recently.

Today, the Rolex Stella dial models are amongst the most coveted vintage Rolex timepieces that embrace an elegant vintage appeal.

4. Rolex Sky-Dweller

Making its debut in 2012 as one of the most sophisticated and stylish Rolex models, the Sky-Dweller, the ultimate travel watch, had faced its fair share of hatred before the collection finally took off. The watch, which comprises fascinating features, including the innovative annual calendar complication and the GMT functionality, left the collectors puzzled.

In the past few years, the Sky-Dweller has gathered its momentum. This was after Rolex decided to refine the watch with new movement and other style updates. Over time, people have realised how versatile this watch could be and love it!

5. Rolex Milgauss

Rolex is a brand with clever craftsmanship, and the Milgauss is a smart example of that. However, even after being a scientist-favourite timepiece, the Milgauss was primarily ignored in front of the other flashier models.

Even when it debuted in 1950, the watch did not get attention. But not many knew that the Milgauss was the black sheep of the Rolex family with unconventional orange accents and lightning bolt second hands.

Discontinued in 1988 and revived in 2007, the Rolex Milgauss came with a striking Z-Blue dial in 2014 that generated all the hype!

SUMMARY

When someone says good things take time, they probably mean it right. In Rolex, the above models have had a similar fate and are now enjoying the taste of fame and success.

Additionally, if you own any of the named models, you’ll be surprised by the kind of attention the watches get in the secondary market. If you ever decide to sell Rolex watches in the pre-owned market, expect to fetch an excellent value!

And, in case you love what you hear (the price offered), you can always sell Rolex to reliable watch buyers in London for the best resale value.
